Got a nice sunburn watching the Final - on the sidewalk, the place was so crowded (more with Spanish fans than Dutch). I had Dutch flags on my cheeks, and was rooting best I could, but... Spain won. Ah, well. Good match.

Finally made it to a show at the Long Beach Arts Theatre, a restored landmark.
A lovely place, though I wouldn't see a big blockbuster there. But I did enjoy seeing Joan Rivers' pic. She's inspiring, but I certainly don't envy her!(taken in very dim lighting with my cell; hence the poor quality!)

Grease... is the WORD!

Went to the premiere of the Grease singalong at the Hollywood Bowl with the Tall Girls. FUN FUN FUN. We go to the Sound of Music singalong in September, which is also really fun, but... Grease. Is. My. Movie.
I didn't want to go crazy with costuming, but at least wanted to do something fun; and happily realizing I already owned a pink cardigan, decided to go with dressing up the top half of me, while wearing jeans and trainers (it is the Hollywood Bowl, after all, and I was not going to let painful feet ruin my night). So I thought I'd do my hair up in pin curls, grab some red lipstick and some bubble gum...

What have we learned:

Pin curls are not something to lightly think you can do at noon the day of.

Started out pretty well...

...and then my patience ran out and I reverted to the curling iron.Pretty good, eh? Though I suppose the makeup's a bit heavy, borderlining on drag-queen, so I'll lighten up a bit on that next year (in person it didn't quite look THAT heavy).

GO GREASED LIGHTNING!

The theme was 'toys' - but alas, I have none. *sniff* Just so happens my parents cleaned out part of the attic and gave me a box of fairly worthless plastic bits and pieces of what was once some type of dollhouse, of which I have no recollection. Ah well; put this guy to some use before tossing.

Though I did think this one was cuter:
... part of the challenge was creating some sort of ambience, or story. "Horse zombie coming out of Ground" just didn't work right.

I had a pre-cancerous birthmark removed from my shin here (Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach) when I was seven. My experience was so awesome, I actually cried when I had to go home (I knew I wouldn't be getting nearly the same amount of attention!).

Spotted this well-cared for Chevy on the road today. Reminds me of my grandpa's '55 Chrysler Windsor, which was my first car. At 16, I did not think it was very 'cool', and sadly did not take care of it.

From my six year old boyfriend:Ok, so as not to sound creepy...
he's a first grader I've taught since last year, and ever since he won't stop talking about how much he loves me and my class, and how he'll always sign up for drama as long as I'm teaching.
I noticed he was particularly hyper Friday afternoon, along with a few others, so I blamed it on the ice cream ("Ice Cream Fridays" - don't we know by now that's a HORRIBLE idea?!?).. they were bouncing off the walls.
As I was leaving through the school gate, his mom and sister (who's in 3rd grade, and also in my class, but a different one) ran up to me and asked if I could wait a minute. I said "Sure," and they called out for him to come. I noticed by then the mother had a bouquet in her hand... the three of them walked up to me, the sister handed the flowers to her brother, who very proudly handed them to me and said, "These are for YOU!"
I gushed, and said, "WOW, thank you so much! These are beautiful! What are they for?" And both kids together said, "For all your hard work!"

Now if I could just find someone about 40 years older to do the same... :)

I normally tutor Korean kids - help with homework, etc. - A new gig I got through a friend recently. It's great that it's local, not so great it's not many hours.

They wanted me to come during the Winter Break to lead some of the younger kids in theater games and maybe do some type of performance; another way to help them learn the language as well as confidence and diction.

Today was our first day, and other than one child I already knew, everyone else I'd never met before. I was pleasantly surprised at how much energy they all had, and most willing to jump in and try things.

The first game we played is called 'Zip, Zap, Boing' - usually a rather complex game for kids to learn, but these kids picked it up VERY fast. Later, another boy joined in, and I asked Andy to explain it to him quickly in Korean so we could get on with the game.

The BEST time to be at home in SoCal... on my parents' deck. Today and Thanksgiving were the only two times I'd get homesick when I lived in England.

My favorite lettuce has now bolted [insert joke here]. That really means when it shoots up in a stalk, apparently thinking it's finished and now time to seed, and it goes bitter. Ah well.
I've still got tomatoes coming, other lettuce plants, etc.

I am a bit concerned about that zucchini/courgette.

This may look like a very mundane picture, but it represents a HUGE achievement: AFTER A YEAR AND A HALF, and two solid weeks' of hard, manual, detailed labour, I CAN NOW PUT MY CAR IN THE GARAGE!!!

I actually took time in the morning to reflect, and remember, those who have fought and died, as well as those whom I have loved, and have died.
I went out and spent some time with my aunt, grandma & grandpa. It was lovely; a big line of cars going into the cemetery, but it's such a big place, no one was around where I was.
