184/365

... a few days later...
It stands out even more now, not only because of all the blooms on it, but it's the only flower in the garden right now (aside from loads of calla lilies on the other side).

Taken before the gardeners came and pruned ALL the rosebushes!!
:(
I know it's necessary, but they could've told me so I could save the pretty ones! Poo.

182/365

Found these two tucked away in a bag (brand new) - apparently my aunt's former caretaker bought them to send to family and never did. I attached a note addressed to the children next door saying "Hi, we've been living with Elizabeth for some time now, and we heard that you guys are really fun and have the best tangerines and challah bread around, so we were wondering if we can come stay with you..." and reached over the wall between us to leave them on a lounge chair in the backyard. (they were gone within an hour)
(They've brought me FRESH BAKED challah bread every so often, and they grow their own tangerines and leave them at my door with the kids' labeling my name on the bag).

View from the back door. The poinsettia plants seem quite happy outdoors (this is after a shower). Now... where to put them?

176/365 A NEW ERA

Just like Election Day, I didn't think much of anything until I turned on the TV. Then I couldn't leave it. I smiled, I cried, I cheered, I guffawed, I got upset (about Ted Kennedy), I cried, I smiled... what an exhausting day! And I was just watching TV!

These are the best I got, so they are much better small!

Not sure why, but I suppose after the commentators going on and on about how armoured and secure their car was, I thought NO WAY are they going to be allowed to get out and WALK.

And then they did.
And I just. Lost. IT.
And lost it again when they danced together.

Something in my gut overrides my practical sense, that this is huger than huge.

And I love I caught his expression here:

He, his wife, his daughters, his family. His impact. All of it makes me want to be a better person. Do something big. Have a positive influence and impact.

175/365

I may finally be onto something & holding to one NY's resolution - taking brisk walks around the neighborhood (today I even started running!), then going back around with my camera to shoot things I find interesting.I tried making friends, but he wasn't interested and I looked like a crazy lady.

Honey, are you sure you checked the outside of the house for ALL the Christmas decorations to put away?

Secretary of the Arts Petition

Secretary of the Arts Petition

Quincy Jones has started a petition to ask President-Elect Obama to appoint a Secretary of the Arts. While many other countries have had Ministers of Art or Culture for centuries, The United States has never created such a position. We in the arts need this and the country needs the arts--now more than ever. Please take a moment to sign this important petition and then pass it on to your friends and colleagues.

Many thanks!

174/365 - They're BAAAaack!

While I love the sound of chirping around the house; I'm afraid I can't be happy about providing homes for all these birds. They love to build their nests in the tiles (which are all around the house!)... I wouldn't mind until I learned how much damage they can do, and my least favorite, which I experienced on more than one occasion last year: finding dead babies on the pavement who slipped out. :(
